Middle school is a crucial stage in the formation of young people. The forces of the culture are strong, and the need for truth to help form their hearts and minds is essential. We seek to partner with parents in the Christian formation of middle-school aged children. Faith formation classes are meant to supplement parents’ daily efforts to raise their children in the Catholic Faith we all love so much. Their purpose is to strengthen, not replace, the Faith Formation learned in the home and in our weekly worship at Sunday Mass.
This year, our Wednesday night middle school sessions are moving beyond the traditional textbook. We are launching a dynamic, service-based curriculum designed to transform our youth into the active hands and feet of Jesus Christ!
Before we dive into our projects, our first month will focus heavily on Catholic Social Teaching and the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy. Our goal is to ensure the students deeply understand why we serve from a Catholic perspective before they begin their hands-on work.
Over the course of 22 sessions, your child will participate in powerful in-house service projects, local environmental cleanups, and several off-site mission trips:
- 1 Regional Mission Trip: Hand-packing international life-saving meals at Feed My Starving Children in Libertyville, IL.
- 2 Senior Outreach Visits: Spreading generational joy and playing games with the residents at Prairie Ridge Senior Apartments right here in our community.
- 6 In-House Assembly Projects: Crafting sacramental gifts for younger peers, packing college care packages, and building dignity kits for local shelters.
Our 6th, 7th, and 8th graders will meet the first three Wednesdays of each month from 5:30-6:30 pm from September 30, 2026 through April 25, 2027. Class time and structure will vary for our off-site mission trips. Stay tuned for more info during our Faith Formation year!
